Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” comes to life in Hamburg

🧟

On 31 October, the concourse at Hamburg Central Station will become the stage for an extraordinary spectacle: 150 dancers will transform into zombies and bring Michael Jackson’s legendary ‘Thriller’ music video to life. With elaborate choreography, original moves and electrifying energy, they will pay tribute to the ‘King of Pop’, transforming Hamburg into a real Halloween hotspot for a day.

An idea that gives you goosebumps

The inspiration for this project came during a meeting between MSA Headteacher Jacqui Dunnley-Wendt and the leaders of the Michael Jackson fan club ‘Malibu’ on the occasion of the premiere of the musical ‘MJ’. It soon became clear: ‘Thriller’ is one of the most iconic music videos of all time – and that’s exactly what needed to be brought to the streets. The Musicalschule Ahrensburg took up the idea and turned it into a vibrant large-scale project that delights both music lovers and dance fans.

Auditions in the Speicherstadt: Passion meets expressiveness

An extensive casting session took place in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt this summer. As well as dancing ability, the focus was above all on expression, passion and stage presence – very much in keeping with Michael Jackson’s unmistakable style. From numerous applicants, the best dancers were ultimately selected to join the existing ensemble at the Musicalschule Ahrensburg.

Halloween in Hamburg: ‘Thriller’ show in the Wandelhalle

Following the final dress rehearsal on 31 October in Ahrensburg, the 150 performers will head straight to the Hanseatic city. At lunchtime, the Wandelhalle is transformed into a bustling film set: the famous opening bars of ‘Thriller’ ring out, fog rolls in, and suddenly zombies are dancing through the hall – a sight that captivates passers-by and travellers alike.

A highlight on Hamburg’s events calendar

With this unique Halloween event, the Musicalschule Ahrensburg not only pays an impressive tribute to Michael Jackson, but also builds an emotional bridge between music history, the art of dance and fan culture. The project impressively demonstrates just how timeless ‘Thriller’ is – a song that connects generations and still thrills people worldwide, even more than 40 years after its release.

Conclusion: Hamburg dances to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”

When, at 12:00 on 31 October 2025, the Wandelhalle in Hamburg transforms into a stage full of zombies, one thing becomes clear: ‘Thriller’ is alive and kicking – and how! An event not to be missed – for anyone who loves Michael Jackson, celebrates dance and wants to experience Halloween in a very special way.
