More than just a musical theatre school

A place where people grow together – and surpass themselves.

Many people come to the Ahrensburg Musical School for the first time because they’d like to sing, dance or act.

Some are looking for a new challenge. Some want to give free rein to their creativity. Some are looking for a place where they can meet like-minded people. Some are simply magically drawn to the stage. And some don’t even know exactly what they’re looking for yet.

What many don’t expect is that a trial lesson often turns into much more.

Because, for us, the MSA is more than just lessons. It’s a place where people grow together.

How it all begins

Almost every story at the MSA begins with a taster lesson. With a touch of excitement. With curiosity. And sometimes with the question: “Do I even fit in here?”

Then the music begins. There’s singing, dancing and playing. People get to know one another. There’s laughter, experimentation and working together.

And often something happens that many didn’t expect: a taster session turns into a regular fixture. A course becomes a community. And eventually, the MSA becomes an integral part of life.

What matters to us

Of course, we teach singing, dance and drama. But that alone does not define the MSA.

Our aim is to create a place where people can develop. With joy. With respect. With trust. With mutual support.

Here, children, young people and adults come together. People with a wealth of experience and people with no prior experience at all. People with great ambitions and people who simply want to do something for themselves.

There’s room for all of this here. Because we believe that everyone has their own path – and that this path doesn’t have to look the same for everyone.

Growing together

Most people don’t stay because of a single course. They stay because of the people. Because of the community. Because of the experiences they share.

At MSA, friendships, memories and traditions are formed. And sometimes, bonds that last for many years.

Time and again, we see children starting out with us and later returning as teenagers or adults. We see parents becoming supporters. We see pupils eventually becoming colleagues. And how a community grows from a group of individuals.

The stage – if you’d like

A musical is something to be experienced. That’s why performances and productions have been part of our school life for many years.

For some, their first performance is a big moment. For others, it’s a cherished tradition. And still others simply enjoy the lessons and the sense of community.

Nobody is forced to go on stage. But anyone who wants to will find that we offer the opportunity to gain experience in front of an audience and to create something special together with others.

Voices from the MSA

Wiebke, student

“[The MSA] is the highlight of his week, because there he meets friends and role models in a friendly atmosphere, enjoys brilliant lessons with fantastic teachers and, as in his case, develops – almost without realising it – from a shy little lad into a self-assured secondary school pupil”

Janine, mother

“The MSA is a real haven for our daughter!”

Miriam, mother

“We can just let our hair down”

Louisa, pupil

A look behind the scenes

Life at MSA isn’t just about lessons. Every week brings new stories, new projects, new productions and new encounters.

If you’d like to take a look behind the scenes, you’ll find many of these stories in our Backstage section.

Listen instead of reading

We have also recorded many of our thoughts, stories and experiences in our podcast. There, we talk about the origins of the MSA, life on and off stage, our values and the people who shape our school.

Jacqui & Hauke Wendt

Since 2014, we – Jacqui and Hauke Wendt – have been building the Ahrensburg Musical Theatre School based on a simple belief: musical theatre can change people. Not just on stage, but beyond it too.

That’s why we’re creating a place where people can discover, develop and share their passion for singing, dancing and acting. A place for big ambitions and small successes. For those first steps and for everything that comes after.
