When the MSA children appeared live on ARD television alongside the professionals
There are moments you never forget. Moments when, suddenly, you’re no longer just practising, but living. Moments when the classroom becomes a real stage.
11 July 2015 was one such moment.
A call from Stage Entertainment
The musical *Das Wunder von Bern* was running in Hamburg at the time – produced by Stage Entertainment, then Germany’s largest musical theatre producer. A promotional performance was planned for the ARD programme *Die Besten im Sommer* with Florian Silbereisen in Riesa. With a live audience. During prime time. On ARD.
The problem: child performers from an ongoing stage production are subject to strict labour regulations. They cannot simply be deployed for external promotional events.
Stage Entertainment turned to us – to MCE Shows and the Musicalschule Ahrensburg. The task: to find suitable children, prepare them for the performance and accompany them during the production weekend.
Under the direction of Jacqueline Dunnley-Wendt, some of our students rehearsed the ‘children’s scene’ from the musical – side by side with the professionals from the Hamburg ensemble.
Live. On ARD. In front of millions.
Then came the big day.
Riesa. ARD. Florian Silbereisen. An audience of millions.
Our children were on stage – not on a school stage, not at a town fair, but in one of Germany’s most-watched Saturday evening shows. Together with stage professionals, under the television spotlights, in front of a live audience.
They coped with the long journeys. They saw the rehearsals through to the end. They endured the waiting – which is inevitable in television – like young professionals.
And then, when it really mattered? They delivered.
The video: nearly 260,000 views
We posted a video of this performance on YouTube – and to this day it remains one of the most-watched videos on our channel. Nearly 260,000 views.
That’s no coincidence. It’s a sign of just how special that moment was – for the children, for their families, for everyone who was there or wanted to be there.
What this moment means
You can teach children a lot: singing, dancing, acting. Lyrics, choreography, breathing techniques.
But some things can only be learnt through real experience. The butterflies before a live performance. The moment the camera starts rolling and there’s no turning back. The feeling afterwards – exhausted, exhilarated, proud.
That is precisely what lies at the heart of the Musicalschule Ahrensburg: we are not just a provider of courses. We are a place where people – children, teenagers and adults – gain real stage experience. Performances that matter. Moments that last. Florian Silbereisen’s
*The Miracle of Bern*
was one of them.
