Musical theatre lessons in North Hamburg

Musical theatre classes for children, teenagers and adults from Hamburg North – they do exist. Not in the city itself, but 20 minutes away in Ahrensburg. For many people from Volksdorf, Rahlstedt, Bramfeld or Wandsbek, that’s a shorter journey than their commute to work. And what they get in return is something you’d be hard-pressed to find in this form in Hamburg itself.

Musical theatre lessons near Hamburg – why Ahrensburg?

Hamburg has plenty of courses on offer. But genuine musical theatre lessons – combining singing, dancing and acting on an equal footing under one roof, taught by active stage professionals – are rare even in Hamburg. The Ahrensburg Musical Theatre School offers exactly that: all three disciplines, taken seriously, with real performances as the goal.

Ahrensburg is easily accessible for families from the north and north-east of Hamburg. Many of our pupils come from neighbourhoods that are closer to Ahrensburg than to Hamburg city centre.

What the MSA offers – and what that means

A musical combines singing, dancing and acting all at once. Not three separate subjects, but three disciplines that are practised together right from the start – just like on real musical theatre stages. That’s what sets it apart from a music school, a dance school or a drama class.

For children aged 3 and over

Musical Mini Movers and Musical Kids are playful group programmes in which children sing, dance and take on small roles. Age-appropriate, without pressure, and with real performance experiences at the end of each season.

For young people aged 11 and over

Musical Teens and Musical Adults offer serious training in all three disciplines – with the aim of performing on a real stage. Those who are ambitious can take our entrance exam preparation course (APT) for musical theatre training programmes.

For adults

Musical Adults, tap dance, jazz dance and ballet – for adults who are looking for something: movement, expression, a sense of community, and a creative balance to everyday life. No minimum skill level, no upper age limit.

A real stage, a real experience

Our students from Hamburg take to the stage. Not just in a small classroom, but on real stages: the Ahrensburg Town Festival, Altonale Hamburg, Hamburg Central Station, our own productions such as ‘Ritter Rost’ in the Alfred-Rust-Saal, and international competitions (ICMT). These experiences aren’t just a bonus – they’re part of the learning journey.

What sets us apart from other programmes in Hamburg

  • All three musical theatre disciplines given equal weight: singing, dance and acting in a single course
  • Active stage professionals: Our tutors perform regularly on stage themselves
  • Real productions: No school without a stage – every group works towards performances
  • A small institute, not a factory: Everyone is seen, everyone receives feedback
  • A long-term journey is possible: From a taster session to preparation for further training

Frequently asked questions

Is the journey from Hamburg to Ahrensburg really worth it?

For many of our Hamburg students: yes. Because it’s hard to find teaching of this quality in Hamburg itself. Many have been coming for years – not in spite of the journey, but because what they find here makes it worth the trip.

How often do the lessons take place?

Once a week. For most people, the evening class fits easily into their daily routine – a fixed slot each week, with no changing timetable.

Do I need any previous experience?

No. All courses accept beginners. Students are grouped according to age and level of experience, not prior knowledge.

When can I book a taster lesson?

Twice a year: at the end of January and in the summer (August). Book via our taster lesson page.
