Children’s dance classes in Ahrensburg for children aged 3 and over

Children dance. They do it all the time – in the kitchen, in the hall, as they drift off to sleep. What they need is not lessons in the traditional sense. They need a place that channels this energy and gives it direction.

The Ahrensburg Musical School offers children’s dance classes for children aged 3 and over – as part of proper musical theatre lessons. This means that dancing isn’t practised in isolation, but alongside singing and small roles. Just as children do naturally. Only in a more structured way, with guidance and with the aim of eventually performing on a real stage.

An overview of our children’s courses

Musical Mini Movers – for children aged 3 and over

Dancing, singing, storytelling: the Mini Movers offer a gentle introduction to the world of musicals. For children aged 3 and over who are curious – about movement, sound and themselves.

In each 45-minute session, the children discover how music and movement go hand in hand. A sense of rhythm, coordination and their first foray into role-play – all done in a playful way, with no pressure. No prior experience is required.

Musical Kids – for children aged 6 to 10

Singing, dancing and acting in a single lesson – and at the end of the season: a real performance in front of a real audience. For children aged 6 to 10 who want more than just lessons.

The Musical Kids work on choreography, voice training and scene work in 90-minute sessions. Each season culminates in a performance – not as an optional extra, but as a natural conclusion. Children who have stood on a stage once are different people afterwards.

What makes children’s dance at the MSA special

Many dance schools teach dance as a discipline. At the MSA, dance is part of something bigger: musical theatre. This means that, right from the start, children learn to combine movement with expression. They sing, dance and act – all at the same time, in every lesson.

  • Lessons taught by active stage professionals: All tutors perform regularly on stage themselves
  • Real performance experience: Every group works towards a performance
  • Holistic approach: Dance, singing and acting – no isolated technical training
  • Small groups: Every child is noticed and supported
  • No pressure to perform: The joy of movement always comes first

What children learn through dance – beyond the dance itself

Children’s dance is not merely an activity involving movement. What children develop in our classes has an impact beyond the classroom:

  • Body awareness: Children learn how their bodies work and how to use them in a targeted way
  • Coordination and a sense of rhythm: Fundamentals that help in many areas of life
  • Self-confidence: Those who have performed in front of others have greater confidence in their everyday lives
  • Concentration: Dancing requires focus – and helps to develop it at the same time
  • Community: A dance group is also a social group where children feel at ease and learn to listen

From what age, how often, for how long?

The Mini Movers start from age 3, the Musical Kids from age 6. All classes take place once a week. Mini Movers sessions last 45 minutes, Musical Kids sessions 90 minutes. Both classes are structured so that no prior experience is required – children can join at any time, ideally by attending a taster session.

Frequently asked questions about children’s dance

At what age can my child start?

From the age of 3 in the Musical Mini Movers. Children who are already 6 years old join the Musical Kids class straight away.

Does my child need any prior experience?

No. Both courses accept children with no prior experience whatsoever. The only thing that matters is a desire to move.

How is this different from a normal dance school?

For us, dance isn’t a stand-alone subject, but part of musical theatre. Children sing, dance and play roles in every lesson. This makes the lessons more lively and prepares them for real stage experiences.

Do the children actually perform?

Yes. Every class works towards a performance. This isn’t an optional extra, but an integral part of the learning journey. Children who have performed in front of a real audience are different.

Do parents have to be there?

No. Lessons take place without parents. This encourages the children’s independence and helps the group to develop. Parents are, of course, very welcome to attend performances.

When are the taster sessions?

Twice a year: at the end of January and in the summer (August). Book via our taster lessons page.
